What is Reconstructive Surgery?
The specialty
of plastic surgery includes two branches: cosmetic or aesthetic surgery,
which is done on an elective basis to enhance the patient's appearance; and
reconstructive surgery, which is done to repair birth defects and deformities
caused by disease or trauma. At Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona, Doctors
Lex and Quigley perform both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, with reconstructive
surgery accounting for more than 50% of their practice.
Reconstructive
surgery includes a great variety of procedures on many different parts of
the body. Some of the more commonly performed reconstructive surgery procedures
include:
- Breast Reconstruction
(following Mastectomy)
- Breast Reduction
- Cleft Lip
- Cleft Palate
- Scar Revision
(surgical treatment of scars)
- Skin Cancer
Removal
- Tissue Expansion
- Various Hand
Surgeries (Dupuytren's Contracture, Syndactyly, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Repair of Tendon Dysfunction or Injuries.)
- Replantation
(Reattachment) of Limbs and Digits

Many reconstructive
surgeries are covered by medical insurance. Doctors Lex and Quigley accept
a great variety of different insurance and health plans. The Doctors perform
most of their surgical procedures at Northern Arizona SurgiCenter (NASC),
the state-licensed and Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery center housed
in the same building as Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona (at 1020 North
San Francisco Street in Flagstaff). NASC is a very comfortable and convenient
facility for our patients and, like the Doctors, accepts a wide variety of
insurance and health plans.
The Doctors also
have current hospital priveleges at: Flagstaff Medical Center, Verde Valley
